The International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) is an international programme of teaching and learning that focusses on the development of the whole child. The PYP aims to develop internationally minded students who demonstrate the attributes of the IB Learner Profile.
IB Mission Statement
The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organisation works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
The IB Mission statements in the words of our students:
Surrey Hills Primary School is an accredited International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB | PYP) school. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.
Guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, students broaden their learning by developing their conceptual understandings, strengthening their knowledge and skills across, between and beyond subject areas. There is close alignment with the Victorian Curriculum to ensure that students are learning the skills and content required from a Victorian Government School within the framework of the PYP.
